This food carving way is able to create any simple shapes out of vegetable, for example stars, a four petaled flower and so on ... . Follow the steps below to achieve your design for food carving.
YOU WILL NEED
- A carrot
- A paring knife (peeling \ turning knife)
- A chef knife
Practice
Trim off top of carrot and cut a section about 2.5 – 3 cm thick.
Draw outline of section carrot which you cut it off on a piece of paper. If the section of the carrot has a broken shape, make the heart centered from it and start drawing the heart shape. If you need you can use the ruler to help drawing a good outline.
Use scissors to cut out the heart shape which you have drawn. Stick the heart shape with double-sided tape on the section of carrot.
Use a chef knife point to cut through from the heart center. Against the top edge of the heart cut through both sides.
Keep using the chef knife to trim the heart shape as much as you can to match the paper shape.
Once trimmed, the heart shape is done, take paper shape off.
Using a paring knife gently peel off carrot from section side to make the heart shape smooth. See How to use a paring knife to tell you more ways to use it.
Especially the top of heart, peel the carrot curve smooth as a half circle.
Till the heart shape is as perfect as you want, use the chef knife to cut sections about 1.2 to 1.5 cm thick.
Before you present on the plate, don’t forget to soak it in salty water for 1 second to look fresh. That’s all. Very easy to do the shaped carrot.
