Premise
Use recycled paper, such as brochures or newspaper, to make a cool and unique cup coaster. It will be a lovely gift to give to your friends and family. Another good thing is that it doesn't cost much but it means lots to them.

YOU WILL NEED
- Utility knife
- Prefer colorful craft printed paper 15 cm x 15 cm x 6 sheets
- Craft PVA
- Ice cream stick craft x 1
Practice
Prepare for 24 pieces sheet
Let’s start to process the first step. Firstly get a piece of printed paper to fold in half and cut it through from the center. After that we fold it each half into quarter and cut from its center too.
Process same way as step 1 on other fix printed paper to make four pieces each, until you have 24 sheets of paper.
Start folding first piece of coaster
Fold one piece paper in half to get the mountain fold, then unfold it to make the half top of Blintz base.
To be more clear, let us identify the point A ~ F, outside and inside as in picture.
Turn outside and fold Point “D” a mountain fold.
Turn outside and fold Point “C” a mountain fold.
Fold half from “C, D” to “A, B”. Fold point “D” all way down, then unfold it. From the valley fold which you just made to pinch point “D” half way down.
Fold point “C” all way down, then unfold it. From the valley fold which you just made to pinch point “C” half way down .
From outside, hold point “E” to push point “C” and “D” toward to center of paper.
From PREMISE of DOWNLOAD to download the pattern, and follow “How to print the actual size of pattern” steps to print it out. After that you are able to check if you current created one piece is a right size as printed shape.
Continue to process other 23 pieces
Follow the step 3 ~ 9 to make other 23 pieces.
Put them all together
Let us put 24 pieces into coaster together. Firstly, organize those color of printed paper to look as nice as you like, then make each piece at point “F” connect together.
Use the printed out pattern to help you locate from the background. Make sure the points top and center are put correctly, then roughly glue each pieces.
Three pieces as a group per time to place the location and glue it.
Continue to check the position, so you don’t have to glue each piece to tightly at this stage.
Be careful with the last piece. Check with background pattern, make sure all top points and center shape are at the right position. Then you can glue them well.
Payoff
Almost there, right now we need to check if all the pieces are stuck together well. Turn to another side and glue each piece.
That’s all. Once it has been done, you probably will get a sense of accomplishment, as it’s a little bit challenging to place 24 pieces well the first time. Practice to make perfect.
Tips
Use the brochure which you are able to get from mail box, it's a great idea for recycled paper.
Trim brochure sheet about 3.75 cm ~ 4.5 cm width and height for 24 pieces, the steps will be same as above.
If you can find some brochure paper sheet is little bit thicker, that will be good to make for a coaster. Also colorful brochure is a good choice too.
